August delivered a big one: my first solo exhibition, Top End Characters, opened with Darwin Visual Arts in the Top End.
It's been a long-term goal of mine to hold a solo exhibition, and this one felt like the perfect introduction — 14 paintings on the walls, and by the end, several paintings heading off to new homes right across the Northern Territory and interstate.
The best part wasn't even the sales. It was the conversations — meeting other artists, and spending time talking with gallery visitors about the birds, bush and quirky characters that inspire each piece. There's something different about watching someone stand in front of a painting and hearing what they see in it.
And to keep the momentum going, I've just launched my Online Gallery at annowen.com.au — so you can browse (and take home) an original piece any time, not just when I've got a show on.
